Methamphetamine Ring Leader Sentenced

BANGOR, Maine – An Aroostook County man has been sentenced to 92 months in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation in northern Maine, according to U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank.

Andrew Maynard, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine in March 2020.

According to court records, between January 2017 and August 2018, a drug trafficking organization distributed large quantities of methamphetamine in northern Maine, obtaining the drugs from out-of-state sources in Colorado and Arizona. The organization sent thousands of dollars in U.S. currency to those sources to supply its drug trafficking enterprise.

Maynard aided the organization by distributing methamphetamine and collecting proceeds from the sale of the drug. His sentencing marks the end of a lengthy investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The case highlights the ongoing struggle to combat methamphetamine trafficking in northern Maine. The organization’s operations were a significant threat to public safety, and Maynard’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of involvement in such activities.

U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank commended the agencies involved in the investigation, saying, ‘This case demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement to hold accountable those who traffic in dangerous and destructive substances.’

Maynard’s sentence also includes three years of supervised release, a condition that will closely monitor his activities after his release from prison.

The case serves as a warning to those involved in similar activities: the consequences of involvement in methamphetamine trafficking will be severe and long-lasting.
