A 29-year-old Mexican citizen has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for reentering the US illegally. Christian Vega-Camacho was previously removed from the country in 2018 but managed to sneak back in using fraudulent documents.
He was first arrested in Decorah, Iowa, in April 2021, but fled from release in June of the same year. His whereabouts were unknown until he was finally caught in Postville, Iowa, in November 2025.
Vega-Camacho pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. He will also serve a one-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and fight transnational criminal organizations.
