A notorious meth kingpin in Sioux City, Iowa, got slapped with 17.5 years in the slammer after a federal judge handed down the sentence in a high-profile case. Todd Babb, 62, was found guilty of conspiring to distribute over 500 grams of mixed methamphetamine in the Sioux City area.
The evidence against Babb was damning: a search of his residence turned up $3,000 in cash and a quarter pound of methamphetamine, which he intended to distribute. A separate seizure of a vehicle leaving his residence yielded a pound of methamphetamine.
Babb’s rap sheet is longer than a snake’s got scales – he’s got at least five prior felony drug offenses on his record. The Tri-State Drug Task Force, composed of law enforcement agencies from multiple states, led the investigation.
Assistant US Attorney Shawn S. Wehde handled the prosecution, and Judge Leonard T. Strand didn’t go easy on Babb. The sentence includes a 10-year term of supervised release after Babb serves his time. There’s no parole in the federal system, so Babb’s gonna be locked up tight for a long time.
