Martin Edgardo Menjivar, a 59-year-old Iowa City man and Honduran national, has been sentenced to 42 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material. The sentencing took place on March 26, 2026, in Davenport, Iowa. Menjivar used his cell phones to view and possess images and videos containing child sexual abuse material, which was discovered during a forensic examination in April 2025. Menjivar had access to the children who were exploited, and he also faces a pending charge for Sexual Abuse, Second Degree, in the Iowa District Court for Johnson County.
The investigation was conducted by the Iowa City Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
After completing his prison term, Menjivar will be required to serve a 10-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system, ensuring that Menjivar will serve his full sentence.
The sentencing of Menjivar sends a strong message that child sexual exploitation will not be tolerated, and those who commit such heinous crimes will face severe consequences. The cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies is crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice and protecting vulnerable children.
