Jose Manuel Parsons, a 40-year-old Iowa City man, was sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. The sentence was handed down on March 25, 2026, after an investigation by the Iowa City Police Department. Parsons had been working for traveling carnival companies, putting him in contact with children, and had been communicating with minors, including a minor in Michigan who sent him child sexual abuse material.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had received a CyberTip about an account associated with Parsons, which led to the discovery of files containing child sexual abuse material. Law enforcement examined an electronic device seized at Parsons’ arrest and found evidence of his communication with minors.
Parsons will serve a 10-year term of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The investigation and sentencing of Parsons demonstrate the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The Iowa City Police Department and the Department of Justice are working together to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in these heinous crimes.
