Robert Lee Johnson, III, a 39-year-old from Gainesville, Florida, pleaded guilty to producing child pornography after exploiting a 14-year-old minor in 2020. Johnson, who was 33 at the time, met the victim and recorded sexual acts, threatening to post the videos online. A search warrant revealed the explicit videos on Johnson’s phone.
The investigation, a joint effort by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, led to Johnson’s guilty plea. He faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and up to 30 years, as well as registration as a sex offender.
U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin commended the investigative work and aggressive prosecution, stating that keeping predators like Johnson in prison is key to keeping children safe. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 1, 2026, at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville, Florida. Johnson’s guilty plea marks a significant step towards justice for the victim and highlights the importance of continued efforts to combat child exploitation.
