Oklahoma sex predator Jimcy McGirt, 77, just got a 45-month prison sentence for flouting the law – literally. He pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) and breaching his supervised release terms.
On May 2, 2024, McGirt was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country. But instead of toeing the line, McGirt moved less than 2,000 feet from a playground in Muskogee, Oklahoma, – a direct violation of his court-ordered restrictions.
Investigators say McGirt was also active on social media and the internet, another no-go according to his supervised release terms. His SORNA snafu caught up with him on June 24, 2025, when he pleaded guilty to the charges.
US Attorney Christopher J. Wilson vowed to aggressively prosecute anyone who violates their SORNA obligations – and McGirt’s sentence is proof.
