A 51-year-old Hugo man is facing time for owning a machine gun. John Thomas Worthy knowingly possessed the firearm on January 21, 2025, in Choctaw County.
Investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives uncovered the modified weapon. The gun could shoot more than one round without reloading.
Worthy pleaded guilty to the charge in federal court on October 6, 2025. Judge Ronald A. White sentenced him to one year of probation.
The ATF led the investigation that cracked the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the government in court.
