MARIO ELPIDIO CHAVEZ MILLAN, Human Trafficking, New York 2023

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: MARIO ELPIDIO CHAVEZ MILLAN, a notorious human trafficker and collaborator with Mexican “coyotes,” has finally been brought to justice. Today, the Southern District of New York’s U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced that Chavez Millan has entered a guilty plea for conspiring to transport illegal aliens throughout the United States.

In a gritty twist of fate, Chavez Millan also confessed to his role in a kidnapping conspiracy as part of his plea before U.S. District Judge Vincent L. Briccetti. The defendant is scheduled to face sentencing on August 7, 2024, for his heinous crimes.

According to the New York State Police, Chavez Millan’s scheme was exposed on July 10, 2023, when an individual reported their relative, Victim-1, had been trafficked into the country. The report detailed that Chavez Millan demanded $1,000 from Victim-1 and his family for his release.

That night, State Police conducted a traffic stop in Cortlandt, New York, where they found Chavez Millan’s vehicle crammed with illegal aliens being transported across state lines. Several passengers confirmed that Chavez threatened them with further violence if an additional $1,000 wasn’t paid.

CHAVEZ MILLAN, 19, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for conspiracy to transport aliens. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Markewitz is leading the prosecution out of the Office’s White Plains Division.

The grimy truth behind human trafficking is laid bare with this conviction, as U.S. Attorney Williams vowed to use every tool available to combat such predators. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Hudson Valley Resident Agency and Safe Streets Task Force, along with the New York State Police, were praised for their unwavering investigative efforts.
