Mexican Mafia Enforcer Gets 30 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking
San Angelo, TX – Eric Cortez Flores, a 32-year-old ranking member of the Mexican Mafia, has been sentenced to 360 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation that supplied the deadly drug from Lubbock to San Angelo, Texas.
According to court documents, Flores was the Mexican Mafia’s methamphetamine supplier, and his operation was busted by law enforcement in February 2012. On that day, agents with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant at Flores’s residence on Montague in San Angelo.
The search yielded a plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine residue, which was located next to the toilet, as well as methamphetamine residue next to the toilet. The agents also found approximately $96,000 in cash, a semi-automatic pistol, approximately 25 wrappings similar to those typically used to package large amounts of methamphetamine, and a suspected drug ledger.
Flores admitted to flushing an ounce or less of methamphetamine down the toilet before law enforcement arrived. He also stated that he had approximately $70,000 in his house that was drug sales proceeds from the past 18 months and that he’d distributed approximately one pound of methamphetamine every two weeks during that time period.
The investigation was conducted by ICE HSI, the FBI, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and the San Angelo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey R. Haag prosecuted the case.
Flores’s sentencing is a major blow to the Mexican Mafia, a powerful and notorious gang that has been linked to numerous violent crimes and drug trafficking operations across the United States.
