Griselda Vazquez-Duran, Illegal Reentry of a Removed Alien, Florida 2022

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Griselda Vazquez-Duran, 46, a Mexican national, is going down for sneaking back into the United States.

Convicted of illegal reentry of a removed alien, Vazquez-Duran was handed a six-month prison sentence yesterday.

The 46-year-old was previously deported in June 2013, but managed to sneak back into the country undetected.

It wasn’t until she was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol for driving without a valid license that Vazquez-Duran’s true identity was revealed.

After being booked into the Leon County Jail, Vazquez-Duran’s fingerprints were taken, revealing her true nationality and her history of deportation.

“President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have made enforcing our nation’s immigration laws a top priority, and my office will continue to aggressively pursue these cases to deter future illegal reentries,” said U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting American communities.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Harley Ferguson and Justin M. Keen prosecuted the case, working in conjunction with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations.

“This sentence underscores the critical importance of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in upholding the rule of law and protecting American society,” said Homeland Security Investigations Tallahassee Assistant Special Agent in Charge Nicholas Ingegno.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is committed to keeping communities safe and enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.

The case is a reminder that sneaking back into the United States will not go unpunished.

Vazquez-Duran’s sentence serves as a warning to others who would attempt to reenter the country illegally.
