Michael Aaron Estrada, Child Pornography, Iowa 2022

A 35-year-old Des Moines man, Michael Aaron Estrada, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for producing child pornography. The crime occurred between August 2019 and June 2020.

According to court documents, Estrada used Snapchat to communicate with a 15-year-old minor who lived in Massachusetts. Estrada knowingly solicited pictures and videos of the minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The minor sent Estrada ‘selfie’ photos and videos as requested.

Estrada also downloaded and distributed child pornography via the internet. He downloaded the material in 2019 and 2020, and distributed videos in March 2020.

The FBI Child Exploitation Task Force and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated the case. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative.

Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide effort to reduce the incidence of sexual exploitation of children. The initiative combines law enforcement investigations and prosecutions, community action, and public awareness.
