NEW ORLEANS, LA – The streets of Tangipahoa Parish are a little less saturated with poison thanks to a two-year DEA investigation that has finally brought nine members of the “Jungle Life Mafia” to justice. Federal prosecutors announced a string of guilty pleas and sentences this week, exposing a network peddling deadly fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine. The bust yielded a staggering $590,602 in cash and ten illegal firearms, painting a picture of a well-funded and heavily armed criminal enterprise.
The ringleader, MICHAEL ALEXANDER, SR., a/k/a “Monsta,” a/k/a “Jamond,” age 40, faces the harshest penalties. He pled guilty March 9th to conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, 100 grams or more of heroin, and cocaine, along with possession charges and the added weight of being a felon in possession of firearms. He’s looking at a minimum of 10 years, potentially life, and a $10 million fine. Sentencing is slated for June 13, 2023. The feds are also tacking on a mandatory $100 special assessment fee for each of the four charges.
ATRELL ANDERSON, a/k/a “Trey,” a/k/a “Trel,” a/k/a “Da Boi,” age 31, isn’t faring much better. He copped a plea to conspiring to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin, plus distribution of meth and using a communication device to facilitate the drug trade. The judge came down hard, sentencing Anderson to 188 months (15 years and 8 months) in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a $600 assessment fee. This sentencing occurred on March 9, 2023.
TERRELL HAYNES, a/k/a “Redman,” age 44, entered a guilty plea September 19, 2022, for similar charges – conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin, distribution of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. He’s staring down a potential life sentence, alongside a hefty fine and years of supervised release. The exact sentencing date remains unconfirmed.
Rounding out the convictions are MICHAEL ALEXANDER, JR., a/k/a “Mike Mike,” age 22; BRANDON BAKER, age 37; LOUIS BELLS, JR., age 22; JERALD ALEXANDER, age 37; STAR ROBICHAUX, age 43; and JOSHUA PRINE, age 42, all residents of Tangipahoa Parish. While details of their individual pleas and sentencing are still emerging, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans confirmed they have all pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey. This operation highlights the relentless flow of narcotics into Louisiana and the ATF/DEA’s ongoing efforts to stem the tide.
This wasn’t just about moving drugs; it was about power and profit. The seized cash and weaponry demonstrate the Jungle Life Mafia wasn’t a small-time operation. It was a sophisticated criminal network that preyed on the vulnerable and flooded the streets with deadly substances. While these convictions represent a significant blow, the fight against organized crime in Louisiana is far from over. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and expose the underbelly of federal crime.
