Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering Land Two Aryan Brotherhood Members in Prison
Houston, Texas – In a chilling display of the violent nature of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas (ABT), two members were sentenced to federal prison on April 20, 2012, for their role in a brutal aggravated assault.
Michael Burkett, 34, aka “Redneck,” was sentenced to 27 months in prison for racketeering aggravated assault. His accomplice, Shane Dallmeyer, 31, aka “Lock Jaw,” received a 33-month prison sentence for the same crime.
The crime took place on September 22, 2008, at the home of Steven Walter Cooke, 48, aka “Stainless,” in Tomball, Texas. The victim, an ABT prospect, was beaten by 12 ABT gang members, including Burkett and Dallmeyer, for violating the gang’s rules of conduct.
According to court documents, the ABT is a powerful, state-wide organization that operates both inside and outside of state and federal prisons. The gang has been responsible for murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, assault, robbery, and threats against those who violate its rules or pose a threat to the enterprise.
The investigation into the assault was led by a multi-agency task force consisting of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the FBI; the U.S. Marshals Service; the Bureau of Prisons; the Texas Ranger Division – Texas Department of Public Safety; the Montgomery County, Texas, Sheriff’s Department; the Houston Police Department-Gang Division; the Tomball Police Department; the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Inspector General; and the Harris County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office.
The case is being prosecuted by David Karpel of the Criminal Division’s Organized Crime and Gang Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Hileman of the Southern District of Texas.
