Michael D. Love, Kidnapping and Rape, Tennessee 2024

Horn Lake, TN – A grim seven-year reign of terror over Memphis women has ended as Michael D. Love, 45, was found guilty of kidnapping and raping six women, with an attempt to kidnap a seventh. The U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant announced the verdict today.

Love traveled between Mississippi and Tennessee, luring his victims through social media before holding them against their will, raping them, and leaving them in isolated areas. One of the victims was a minor. His brazen actions ended when he was arrested in 2015, leading to the linking of his DNA to unsolved cases dating back to 2008.

The Memphis Police Department’s Sex Crimes Bureau played a crucial role in identifying Love as a suspect using DNA and CODIS technology. The victims, who reported the crimes and sought treatment at the Rape Crisis Center, are now seeing justice served.

Love faces life sentences for his crimes, with sentencing set for August 15, 2019. U.S. Attorney Dunavant praised the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies and the prosecutive team in bringing Love to justice.

FBI Special Agent M.A. Myers highlighted the dedication of law enforcement in continuing to work cold cases, ensuring that criminals are held accountable. MPD Director Michael Rallings emphasized the importance of partnerships and teamwork in achieving these results.

In addition to the federal charges, Love also has matters pending in Shelby County Criminal Court, where he faces multiple counts of rape, kidnapping, robbery, and more.
