Former Bodybuilder Admits Role in Steroid Ring

A 32-year-old Sherman man has pleaded guilty to manufacturing and distributing anabolic steroids, authorities announced yesterday.

Michael D. Mase, a registered nurse and bodybuilder, admitted to purchasing steroids from a fellow conspirator and distributing them to athletes competing in body-building competitions.

According to court documents, the investigation, led by the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security Investigations, revealed that individuals were receiving shipments of steroid ingredients from China and manufacturing and distributing wholesale quantities of steroids.

The investigation also uncovered the distribution of prescription pills, including oxycodone.

Law enforcement seized hundreds of vials of steroids, 600 grams of raw testosterone powder, 350 grams of powder cocaine, and four long guns during the course of the investigation.

Mase was arrested on April 29, 2015, and is currently out on $100,000 bond.

He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny on December 23, 2015, and faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.

Mase’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rahul Kale and Robert M. Spector.

This matter is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
