MISSOULA, Montana – A local man has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for his role in the production and possession of child pornography, officials announced.
Michael Dwaine Freeman, 64, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Missoula on December 9, 2013, for his guilty plea to sexual exploitation of children.
According to court documents, Freeman admitted to taking a photograph of a 3-year-old child’s genital area and storing it on his cell phone. The child was born in 2009.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that Freeman produced additional images of the child between January 31, 2012, and July 29, 2012. The cell phone was seized by law enforcement as part of an investigation into complaints against Freeman.
Freeman was arrested and interviewed at the jail, where he admitted to taking the photograph and producing other images of the child. The cell phone was forensically examined, and the examiner found additional images that were produced between the dates mentioned above.
Freeman was sentenced to 210 months in prison, with an additional 10 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 and forfeit his cell phone.
This case highlights the importance of local, state, and federal law enforcement working together to protect the community from predators like Freeman.
