BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Spencer Hart, a 39-year-old man from Albion, New York, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
Hart, who has a prior conviction under the laws of any state relating to the possession or receipt of child pornography, was convicted of possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Maeve E. Huggins, who handled the case, Hart was convicted in Orleans County Court of attempted possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child in October 2018.
On July 16, 2020, a search warrant was executed at Hart’s residence, and child pornography was found on a computer belonging to Hart. The investigation revealed that Hart possessed more than 600 images of child pornography, some of which included prepubescent minors and depicted violence against children.
Hart also admitted that he distributed child pornography using a peer-to-peer software program in June 2020.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Scarpino, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Christopher Bourke.
Hart’s sentence serves as a harsh reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable members of society.
