Shair Rodriguez-Mora, Child Pornography Possession, New York 2024

A 20-year-old Mexican national is facing severe punishment for his role in the disgusting world of child pornography.

Shair Rodriguez-Mora, 20, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty on Friday, May 3 to possessing 27 videos and 46 images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The disturbing images and videos were found on Rodriguez-Mora’s cell phone when he illegally entered the United States from Canada on July 28, 2023.

Rodriguez-Mora was arrested by the United States Border Patrol, who investigated the case along with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Buffalo Field Office. This is not the first time Rodriguez-Mora has run afoul of the law – he previously pleaded guilty to improper entry by an alien and served 25 days in jail for that offense.

Under the terms of his plea agreement, Rodriguez-Mora will face a prison term of between 24 and 36 months. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Additionally, Rodriguez-Mora must register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and faces removal from the United States.

The investigation into Rodriguez-Mora’s activities is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006. This program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and to identify and rescue victims.

Rodriguez-Mora will be sentenced on September 6, 2024, by Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Collyer is prosecuting the case.
