Methamphetamine Distribution Ring Busted in Mason City

A 41-year-old man from Mason City, Iowa, has been charged with distributing methamphetamine in a federal indictment unsealed on February 1, 2013. Michael Geraghty is accused of being involved in the distribution of the deadly drug in July 2012.

The indictment alleges that Geraghty was involved in distributing methamphetamine despite having a prior felony drug conviction in May 2007 in Black Hawk County, Iowa.

Geraghty appeared in federal court in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on February 1, 2013, where he was held without bond pending a detention hearing on February 6, 2013.

If convicted on all charges, Geraghty faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well as a $8,000,000 fine and $200 in special assessments.

Additionally, Geraghty could face 8 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers and was investigated by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Police Department, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
