Cudahy Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Gun and Drug Charges

A 39-year-old man from Cudahy, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in a gun and drug trafficking operation. Michael J. Yumang was convicted of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, attempting to possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Yumang used the United States Postal Service to receive substantial quantities of methamphetamine at his home in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He also kept a firearm at his residence to protect his contraband and drug proceeds.

At a sentencing hearing in September 2024, U.S. District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller emphasized that Yumang was ‘very, very fortunate to be alive’ given his involvement with drugs and firearms. Judge Stadtmueller also found that Yumang had perjured himself during his trial, obstructing justice and subjecting him to a sentencing enhancement.

U.S. Attorney Gregory J. Haanstad stated, ‘Today’s sentence makes clear that under federal law, individuals who deal in highly addictive and devastating controlled substances – especially those who do so while armed – will face lengthy prison sentences.’

The investigation into Yumang’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Cudahy Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Katherine Halopka-Ivery, William Berens, and Kevin Knight prosecuted the case.

Cudahy Police Chief Thomas Poellot praised the ongoing partnership between his department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, and the United States Attorney’s office, stating that it ‘greatly benefits the City of Cudahy Police Department’.

Yumang’s 15-year sentence is a stern reminder of the consequences of engaging in gun and drug trafficking operations. The case serves as a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to hold individuals who endanger the community fully accountable for their actions.
