MADISON, WIS. – The grim tale of Alfonso Randall, 40, from Janesville, Wisconsin, came to a harsh conclusion when he was sentenced today to three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On February 20, 2021, the police force in Janesville faced a confrontation with Randall during a routine traffic stop. It escalated quickly as Randall interfered with officers, later caught on video making threatening remarks towards law enforcement and brandishing a handgun. His actions did not end there; he was also recorded discharging a firearm at a local gun range.
As a convicted felon, Randall is barred from owning firearms due to his 2001 and 2002 state drug trafficking offenses, followed by federal convictions for distributing crack cocaine in 2009, which landed him a 100-month prison term.
Judge William M. Conley acknowledged Randall’s claim of police accountability but emphasized the importance of respecting authority. He highlighted that instead of promoting law-abiding behavior, Randall had recklessly posted dangerous images online and kept guns accessible to teenagers. The court found his actions to be a threat to public safety.
The Janesville Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation that led to this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan handled the prosecution.
This incident is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence in communities. The Department has implemented a strategic approach focusing on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
