Madison, WIS. – In a shocking case of domestic violence and illegal gun possession, Marcelle Davis, 22, from La Crosse, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to five years in prison by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley.
Davis pleaded guilty on October 7, 2022, to being a felon in possession of firearms. The sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The harrowing incident began on March 8, 2022, when La Crosse police were called to a domestic dispute. The victim, after escaping from an attack by Davis, dropped a Ruger-57 firearm and reported that Davis had threatened her life multiple times, including by pointing a handgun at her face.
Officers recovered the handgun and later found two additional firearms in the apartment: a .22 caliber handgun and a .357 revolver. The victim stated that these guns belonged to Davis, who was known to have used them in violent acts against her.
Davis was eventually tracked down while driving and arrested after a short pursuit. He threw a 9mm handgun out of the car window during the chase. DNA evidence linked Davis to the guns recovered from both the victim and the apartment.
Before his current offense, Davis had already been convicted of false imprisonment and placed on probation. Judge Conley emphasized Davis’s history of violence against women in his sentencing, noting that the defendant’s behavior was frightening and called for a significant sentence.
The investigation into Davis’s illegal gun possession was conducted by the La Crosse Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan handled the prosecution. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Justice Department program aimed at reducing violent crime.
