Shots Fired in Cheyenne, Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession
A violent crime has shaken the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming. On October 10, 2022, Michael Langley, a 26-year-old Cheyenne resident, fired several shots from a semiautomatic pistol at another vehicle while traveling through the city.
The incident unfolded when Langley was a passenger in a vehicle. According to court documents, he unleashed a barrage of gunfire at another vehicle, putting innocent lives at risk. The pistol used in the shooting had an obliterated serial number, making it an illegal firearm.
Langley’s actions were in direct violation of his status as a convicted felon. As a result, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm. His decision to do so has now landed him in serious trouble.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Cheyenne Police Department, investigated the crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan C. Coppom prosecuted the case.
On May 2, 2023, Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl imposed a sentence of 51 months in prison on Langley. He will also serve three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment.
