McAllen Man Pleads Guilty to Methamphetamine Charges
A 34-year-old McAllen man has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute in the Rio Grande Valley area.
Michael Luera, a resident of McAllen, Texas, was stopped by authorities on December 12, 2024, for a traffic violation shortly after he sold approximately 252 grams of methamphetamine.
A K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, leading authorities to find an additional approximately 1,000 grams of methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed multiple bags containing a large amount of U.S. currency and a loaded firearm.
The investigation, conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Texas Department of Public Safety, revealed that Luera was actively selling methamphetamine in the Rio Grande Valley area.
Luera has pleaded guilty to the charges and faces up to life in federal prison and a possible $10 million fine. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane accepted the plea and set sentencing for August 14, 2024.
At this time, Luera remains in custody pending sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cahal P. McColgan is prosecuting the case.
