Michael Mace, Possession of Ammunition, Iowa 2022

Sioux City, IA – A Sioux City man with a lengthy criminal history was sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for possession of ammunition. Michael Mace, 20, received the prison term after a guilty plea to the charge.

A lengthy investigation by the Sioux City Police Department revealed that Mace was involved in a high-speed pursuit on July 19, 2021. During the pursuit, a firearm was thrown from the vehicle, which Mace was a passenger in. The gun was later located on the sidewalk, and the bullets loaded in the gun bore Mace’s fingerprints.

Mace’s criminal history includes multiple convictions, including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, theft in the first degree, assault on an officer, theft in the second degree, and eluding. Despite being just 20 years old, Mace has a lengthy record of crime.

On November 4, 2022, Mace was sentenced to 84 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. He must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term and pay a $100 special assessment.

There is no parole in the federal system, and Mace is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was investigated by the Sioux City Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
