CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA
A brutal crime has shaken the United States Penitentiary Hazleton in Preston County. Michael Owle, 33, has been sentenced to 25 years for his role in the second-degree murder of inmate Anthony M. Dallas.
According to authorities, on August 29, 2012, Owle, along with Ruben Laurel, repeatedly stabbed and cut Dallas, leaving him with nearly 50 stab wounds, including injuries to the heart, lungs, and liver. Another inmate also suffered during the attack but survived.
Owle pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. His accomplice, Ruben Laurel, was previously sentenced to 25 years of incarceration on July 11, 2022.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the FBI conducting the investigation. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
The case serves as a grim reminder of the violence that can occur within our nation’s correctional facilities. As we continue to push for justice and accountability, we must also work towards creating safer environments for those who serve time.
