A South Dennis man has admitted to making threatening calls to a federal official and their relative.
Michael P. Mahoney, 62, pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting interstate threats to injure another person at U.S. District Court in Boston.
According to the FBI, on March 28, 2025, a relative of a prominent federal official was having dinner at a location outside of Massachusetts when they received a call from a ‘No Caller ID’ number.
The caller, later identified as Mahoney, confirmed the relative’s name and started screaming, stating that he was going to murder the relative, their spouse, and the federal official.
Mahoney’s threats were caught on call records, which showed the originating number belonged to him.
When approached by law enforcement at his South Dennis residence on March 29, 2025, Mahoney refused to answer the door or his phone.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise J. Casper has scheduled sentencing for October 29, 2025. Mahoney faces a sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nadine Pellegrini is prosecuting the case.
