Rapid City, SD – In a shocking case of gun crime, Michael Sullivan, 29, has been sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment for illegally possessing firearms in Rapid City, South Dakota.
On November 8, 2016, Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, handed down the sentence to Sullivan, who was found guilty of Possession of Stolen Firearms.
Sullivan’s crimes date back to August 18, 2015, when he was charged with the offense. He later pleaded guilty on August 5, 2016, paving the way for his sentencing.
The conviction stems from Sullivan’s possession of a stolen Ruger 9mm pistol and a KAHR .40 caliber pistol, both of which he knew were stolen from a local pawn shop.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson prosecuted the case, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Rapid City Police Department investigated the crime.
As a result of his sentence, Sullivan was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $1336.00 in restitution.
He was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service, bringing an end to his freedom.
