Michael Summers, 62, lost his life in a tragic shooting on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming on March 21, 2021. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, resulting in his untimely death.
The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the FBI, with assistance from the Wind River Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fremont County Coroner’s office. A thorough review of the case was undertaken by the United States Attorney’s Office, led by United States Attorney Bob Murray.
Following a meticulous review of the investigative and medical materials collected during the investigation, United States Attorney Bob Murray announced that the United States Attorney’s Office has declined pursuing criminal charges related to the shooting death of Michael Summers.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, the decision to decline prosecution was made based on the assessment that there is insufficient evidence to prove the subject of the investigation did not act in self-defense.
The case has been closed, and no further action will be taken by the US Attorney’s Office.
The Wind River Indian Reservation, where the shooting occurred, is a federally recognized Native American reservation located in central Wyoming.
