Gun-Toting Gary Man Gets 14.5 Years Behind Bars
A Gary man’s penchant for firearms landed him in hot water with the law, culminating in a 174-month prison sentence.
Michael Terrance Henderson, 43, of Gary, Indiana, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge James T. Moody after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and possession of a stolen firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Kirsch.
Henderson was sentenced to 174 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release.
The charges against Henderson stem from a disturbance at a Gary residence on April 26, 2018. According to documents in the case, Henderson allegedly threatened to kill another person in the home with a firearm. During the disturbance, Henderson was wearing a bullet-proof vest and possessed a semi-automatic pistol with an obliterated serial number and an extended thirty-round magazine, in addition to possessing another firearm that he had stolen from someone in the home.
Henderson’s lengthy rap sheet includes six prior felony convictions, including three prior convictions for robbery and prior convictions for escape, intimidation, and theft.
Law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation include the ATF/HIDTA Task Force and the Gary, Indiana Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Nicholas J. Padilla and Thomas M. McGrath prosecuted the case.
The investigation and prosecution of Henderson’s crimes serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of firearm-related crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
