LAFAYETTE, La.
A Mexican national has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for reentering the United States illegally.
Miguel Rosales-Sanchez, 46, of Guanajuato, Mexico, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donald E. Walter on one count of illegal reentry of a removed alien.
According to the guilty plea, Rosales-Sanchez was arrested in St. Mary Parish on February 7, 2016. He was previously removed from the United States in 1999, 2004, 2006 and 2010.
Rosales-Sanchez’s sentence is a result of his fourth attempt to reenter the country after being previously removed.
United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Rossetti prosecuted the case.
The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of reentering the US illegally, and the efforts of law enforcement to keep the country safe.
Rosales-Sanchez will serve his 24-month sentence in a federal prison.
