Meth Smuggling Ring Unraveled in Texas
A 23-year-old Houston resident, Mike Mendoza, has been indicted for his involvement in a meth smuggling operation in Texas. According to the indictment, Mendoza and others conspired to import over one kilogram of meth into the United States.
On February 25, 2024, Mendoza allegedly arrived at the Lincoln Juarez Bridge in Laredo driving a Ford F-150. Law enforcement detected anomalies in the tires and soon discovered 24 bundles of meth, weighing a total of 60.04 kilograms with an estimated street value of $360,000.
The indictment charges Mendoza with conspiracy and importation of 50 grams or more of meth. If convicted, he faces a maximum of life in prison and a possible $10 million fine.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam E. Harper prosecuting the case.
An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. As such, Mendoza is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
Mendoza is expected to appear for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Diana Song Quiroga in the near future. The case against him is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
