Mikhal Hamilton, Armed Robbery, Indiana 2023

A brazen daytime robbery at a Carmel CVS Pharmacy left customers shaken and employees fearing for their lives. On June 25, 2023, 25-year-old Mikhal Hamilton, a convicted felon from Indianapolis, teamed up with accomplice David Washington, 23, of Arcadia, Indiana, to carry out the heist.

The duo stormed into the Rangeline Road CVS, brandishing firearms to threaten an employee and steal prescription medications, including Oxycontin, Oxycodone, and amphetamine stimulants. They made off with the loot in a blue Chevrolet Impala, but their joyride was short-lived.

Carmel Police Department officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop shortly after the robbery, arresting both men and recovering the stolen pills, pill bottles, a Glock handgun with an extended magazine and obliterated serial number, and a Polymer80 homemade firearm, also known as a ‘ghost gun.’

Hamilton’s criminal history includes felony convictions for carrying a handgun without a license and synthetic identity deception, which prohibits him from legally possessing a firearm. His accomplice, David Washington, was previously sentenced to nine years in federal prison in October 2024 for his role in the robbery.

A federal jury has convicted Mikhal Hamilton of interference with commerce by robbery, brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker will sentence Hamilton at a later date.

U.S. Attorney Wheeler praised Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kelsey L. Massa and Nate Walter for their work on the case, assisted by Paralegal Specialist Sarah Helbig and Victim Witness Coordinator Johnna Preidt. The Carmel Police Department and FBI Indianapolis Field Office investigated the case as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat violent crime.

As part of their efforts, the FBI Indianapolis Field Office and the Carmel Police Department worked together to bring the perpetrators to justice and protect the community from violent crime. This sentence serves as a reminder that those who commit such crimes will face severe consequences.
