Milton Man Sentenced for Sex Trafficking Crimes
A Milton man has pleaded guilty to federal sex trafficking charges, bringing an end to a years-long investigation into the man’s role in forcing victims into prostitution.
According to court documents, Duhamel Cassagnol, 30, worked with a co-conspirator to prostitute several victims between July 2014 and February 2016. The victims, all of whom were addicted to heroin, were advertised on online posting sites such as Backpage.com and housed in hotel rooms reserved in the co-conspirator’s name in multiple states.
To keep their victims compliant, Cassagnol and his co-conspirator provided them with drugs in exchange for the income the women earned through prostitution. In some instances, Cassagnol was violent and threatened several of the victims, including beating them and forcing one victim to use drugs against her will.
Cassagnol pleaded guilty to sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, as well as conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and transporting an individual for prostitution. The charges carry a minimum sentence of 15 years and up to life in prison, as well as fines of up to $250,000 and mandatory restitution and forfeiture.
U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs has scheduled sentencing for December 18, 2018. Cassagnol’s co-conspirator, Geneiva Whaley, 23, of Connecticut, has already pleaded guilty to one count of transportation of an individual for prostitution and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 4, 2018.
The investigation into Cassagnol’s crimes was conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police, the Lexington and Needham Police Departments, and the Vernon (Connecticut) Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian A. Pérez-Daple is prosecuting the case.
