Carnel Lavel Harrison, Crack Cocaine Conspiracy, Minnesota 2015

A Minneapolis-based gang member has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.

Carnel Lavel Harrison, 27, also known as ‘Boo Man,’ pleaded guilty on April 30, 2015, to conspiring to distribute crack cocaine. He was sentenced on January 21, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

Harrison was closely associated with the Minneapolis-based Taliban/Young N Thuggin (YNT) street gangs, which use hand gestures, social media, and specific language to communicate and convey membership. The gangs claim an area of north Minneapolis as their territory and other north Minneapolis gangs as enemies.

According to court documents, Harrison and his co-conspirators made money by trafficking in illegal drugs, including crack cocaine, which they sold in St. Cloud and Duluth, Minnesota, and Fargo, North Dakota. The gangs would often carry guns to protect themselves and their money while trafficking crack cocaine, and used guns to retaliate against rival gangs.

The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Safe Streets Task Force, which includes federal and local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Steinkamp praised the sentence, saying it provides deterrence to others who may try to profit from the misery of drug addiction and will protect the public from an individual with a history of violent crime.

Harrison was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Steinkamp.
