A Minneapolis man is headed to prison for his role in a $250 million scam that bilked the government out of critical child nutrition funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abdullahe Nur Jesow, 65, operated a fake meal distribution site from his event space, Benadir Hall, in Minneapolis, where he claimed to serve over 1.7 million meals to kids. In reality, he only provided a fraction of those meals, and instead used the cash to buy a home in Columbia Heights and line his own pockets.
Jesow’s scheme, part of the larger Feeding Our Future conspiracy, netted him over $866,000 in ill-gotten gains. He was one of eight defendants charged in a 23-count indictment in September 2022. Today, he pleaded guilty to money laundering and was sentenced to 43 months in prison.
U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen called the scheme a brazen attack on public trust, while FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson vowed to hold accountable those who seek to enrich themselves through child nutrition scams.
