Jeremiah Robert Wiberg, Child Pornography Receipt, Minnesota 2007

In a shocking display of disregard for the law, 42-year-old Jeremiah Robert Wiberg, a registered sex offender from Minnesota, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.

Wiberg’s conviction stems from a 2007 federal conviction for receipt of child pornography, requiring him to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Despite being on federal supervised release for the past eight years, Wiberg has been revoked from supervision multiple times.

After being released from the Bureau of Prisons in Louisiana on November 8, 2023, Wiberg traveled to Billings, Montana, but failed to check in with the United States Probation Office or register under SORNA upon his arrival. His whereabouts were unknown for a period of time, but it was later determined that he spent a few weeks in Montana before traveling to Roundup and then leaving the state without registering.

Wiberg’s failure to register didn’t end in Montana. He was later found to be staying in Minnesota, where he was arrested on a federal warrant for violating his supervised release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, with the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Probation Office, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation conducting the investigation.

U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the case, handing down the 16-month prison sentence to be followed by 5 years of supervised release. Wiberg’s sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender and the consequences of failing to do so.
