Illegal Reentry Charges Filed Against Mission Man

Socorro Rigoberto Ortiz-Beltran, a 45-year-old resident of Mission, South Dakota, has been charged with Illegal Reentry after Deportation.

According to United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, Ortiz-Beltran was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 11, 2014, on charges of violating federal law.

The indictment alleges that on December 19, 2013, Ortiz-Beltran was found in the United States, despite having been previously deported on December 3, 2008, at Hidalgo, Texas.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 2 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Ortiz-Beltran appeared before Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 27, 2014, and pled not guilty to the indictment. His trial has been set for May 13, 2014.

The investigation is being conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller is prosecuting the case.

Ortiz-Beltran was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
