Tara Makes Room For Them, a 19-year-old Mission woman, is facing serious charges after being indicted for second-degree burglary and larceny.
According to court documents, Makes Room For Them was arrested on February 13, 2013, after a federal grand jury indicted her on the two counts. She appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 13, 2013, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty for conviction on both charges is up to 15 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release; and a $100 Special Assessment. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into the burglary and larceny is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. Maher is prosecuting the case.
Makes Room For Them was released on bond pending trial, but a trial date has not been set. The charge is merely an accusation, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The indictment comes as a shock to the community, and many are left wondering how the 19-year-old woman was able to commit such a serious crime.
As the case moves forward, one thing is certain: Makes Room For Them’s freedom is on the line. If convicted, she could be facing a lengthy prison sentence and significant financial penalties.
The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services is urging anyone with information about the burglary and larceny to come forward and assist with the investigation.
