Second Degree Burglary Conviction Rocks Rosebud Reservation
A 19-year-old Mission woman has pleaded guilty to Second Degree Burglary, a serious crime that has left residents of the Rosebud Reservation shaken. Victoria Brown, 19, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on May 1, 2013, and confessed to her role in the burglary.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release; and a $100 assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Brown’s conviction stems from an incident that took place on January 16, 2013, when she and others burglarized homes on the Rosebud Reservation, taking property that did not belong to them.
The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy M. Maher is handling the case, which has sent a clear message to residents of the reservation: burglary will not be tolerated.
Brown is currently out of custody but will self-report to the custody of the U.S. Marshal on July 19, 2013. A presentence investigation has been ordered, and a sentencing date has been set for July 24, 2013.
The Rosebud Reservation community is breathing a sigh of relief now that Brown has taken responsibility for her actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing and solving crimes.
As the investigation into the burglary continues, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The U.S. Marshal and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services are working tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for the burglary are brought to justice.
It’s a victory for law enforcement and a message to those who would seek to commit crime in our community: you will be held accountable.
