Missouri Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Methamphetamine Distribution

A Missouri man has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine in Illinois, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Scott Young, 37, of Chillicothe, Missouri, was sentenced on April 25, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless for distributing methamphetamine.

Young was indicted in December 2019 and pleaded guilty in September 2023, after being accused of distributing methamphetamine on two occasions in Adams County, Illinois in 2019.

At sentencing, the Court noted the terrible effects methamphetamine use has had on communities in the Central District of Illinois, stating that the drug has caused devastating harm to families and communities.

The statutory penalties for distributing methamphetamine are up to 40 years imprisonment, up to a $5,000,000 fine, and up to a life term of supervised release.

The case against Young was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Illinois State Police, and Quincy Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Z. Weir representing the government in the prosecution.

The case against Young is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Project Safe Neighborhoods was launched by the Department of Justice on May 26, 2021, as a violent crime reduction strategy, focusing on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
