Rochester, New York – Mitchell Ruoff, a 22-year-old man from Irondequoit, has been found guilty of a serious crime.
Ruoff pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both.
The crime took place on February 4, 2014, when Ruoff sold a .22 caliber revolver to an undercover law enforcement officer for $400.00. The manufacturer’s serial number on the firearm had been ground off, a fact which Ruoff acknowledged during the sale.
Ruoff’s plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Delano A. Reid, New York Field Division.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
