Council Bluffs Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Offense

Council Bluffs, IA – A Council Bluffs man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a methamphetamine offense.

Mitchell Wayne Bochnicek, 43, of Council Bluffs, was sentenced to 120 months in prison on December 8, 2022, by United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

Bochnicek’s term of imprisonment will be followed by five years of supervised release. According to court documents, he pleaded guilty to the offense on September 2, 2021.

The investigation into Bochnicek’s activities began on January 21, 2021, when he was stopped by law enforcement regarding his vehicle bearing an incorrect registration plate. During the stop, the officer located a scale in Bochnicek’s pocket and then found methamphetamine, baggies, a scale, a loaded firearm, and $1,392 inside the vehicle.

Bochnicek admitted that the methamphetamine and paraphernalia belonged to him.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement. The Council Bluffs Police Department and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force investigated the case. This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Southern District of Iowa.

Bochnicek’s case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of involvement in methamphetamine trafficking.
