Kyle Anthony Doolin, Possession with Intent to Distribute, Iowa 2022

A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for his role in a narcotics operation. Kyle Anthony Doolin, 61, received the prison term on May 24, 2022, after pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance near a protected location.

According to information disclosed at sentencing, Doolin was arrested on July 24, 2020, after a car chase with Cedar Rapids Police. During the pursuit, Doolin’s vehicle struck a wooden fence before he fled on foot. A trained law enforcement K9 assisted in his apprehension, and officers recovered over 26 grams of ice methamphetamine from the immediate area. Additional methamphetamine and heroin were also found on Doolin’s person.

This is not Doolin’s first run-in with the law. Prior to his arrest in 2020, he had accumulated 59 prior adult convictions, including a prior federal conviction for a drug-related offense.

Doolin was sentenced to 157 months’ imprisonment and will also serve an eight-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, which includes the DEA, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Marion Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.

Doolin is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
