Myron Kilgore, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, California 2021

FRESNO, Calif. — In a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unregistered firearms, Myron Kilgore, 42, of Modesto, has been charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

Kilgore’s arrest on Feb. 2, 2021, came after an FBI-led investigation turned up a loaded, unserialized firearm, or ghost gun, hidden under the driver’s side floorboard of his vehicle in Modesto. The recovered weapon contained six rounds of ammunition, and Kilgore, a convicted felon, is prohibited by law from owning firearms or ammunition.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has launched this case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a collaborative initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses on identifying and tackling the most pressing criminal issues in communities across America, with partners working together to develop comprehensive solutions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine E. Schuh will be handling the prosecution of this case. If convicted, Kilgore faces a severe penalty: up to 10 years in federal prison and a quarter-of-a-million-dollar fine. However, any sentence would be at the discretion of the court, considering all relevant factors.

The charges against Kilgore are merely allegations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI, the Modesto Police Department, and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
