Defendant Sentenced to Nearly 8 Years in Prison
BOSTON – In a federal court in Boston, Modesto Ramirez, a 28-year-old Honduran national and MS-13 member, was sentenced to 97 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a racketeering conspiracy. Ramirez, also known as ‘Snoopy,’ will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence.
According to court documents, Ramirez pleaded guilty in May 2018 to conspiracy to conduct enterprise affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity, commonly referred to as RICO or racketeering conspiracy. This guilty plea was a result of a multi-year investigation that led to the unsealing of a superseding indictment in January 2016 targeting MS-13’s criminal activities in Massachusetts.
MS-13 members in Massachusetts were involved in a variety of racketeering acts and crimes of violence, including six different murders between October 2014 and January 2016, as well as numerous attempted murders and conspiracies to commit murder. Ramirez was a member of the Trece Locos Salvatrucha or TLS clique of MS-13.
A recording made by a cooperating witness revealed Ramirez’s intention and willingness to kill a gang rival, which was a key piece of evidence against him. Many other members of the TLS clique were also prosecuted as part of this case, resulting in 49 convictions. Of these convictions, 40 were the result of guilty pleas, while nine others were convicted after trial.
U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, along with several law enforcement officials, announced the sentencing of Ramirez. The officials included Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, and Peter C. Fitzhugh, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston.
Modesto Ramirez’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in Massachusetts. The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
