Mohamed Najm Mohamed Ali Kamash, False Statements in Naturalization Proceeding, Connecticut 2022

New Haven, CT – In a shocking turn of events, Mohamed Najm Mohamed Ali Kamash, 33, of New Haven, has pleaded guilty to making false statements in a naturalization proceeding. The charges stem from a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) interview that took place on August 17, 2021, in Hartford.

According to court documents, Kamash knowingly and falsely stated that he did not know anyone involved with a terrorist organization and that no member of his family was involved with a terrorist organization. The interview was conducted by a USCIS agent, and Kamash was placed under oath at the time.

Kamash, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. who immigrated from Iraq in 2014, is facing a maximum term of imprisonment of five years at sentencing. The court has not yet scheduled a sentencing date.

Kamash was arrested on a criminal complaint on May 5, 2022, and has been released on a $250,000 bond pending sentencing. The investigation into Kamash’s activities is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
