BRIDGEPORT, CT – Dwight Jarvis, 28, of Monroe, admitted to distributing crack cocaine in federal court yesterday, bringing him one step closer to facing serious time for pushing poison in Connecticut. Jarvis waived his right to an indictment and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden in Bridgeport, effectively confessing to the charges that have haunted him since a 2016 raid.
The case, spearheaded by the DEA’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force alongside the Milford Police Department, stemmed from a search of Jarvis’ Monroe residence on October 27, 2016. What investigators found wasn’t a casual stash – it was a full-blown narcotics operation. Approximately 29 grams of cocaine, a staggering 25 grams of crack cocaine, and 70 individually packaged bags of heroin were seized, alongside tools used for processing and preparing the drugs for street-level sales.
Jarvis was initially taken into custody on December 16, 2016, on a federal criminal complaint. He’s been out on a $100,000 bond ever since, a temporary reprieve that will soon end when sentencing is scheduled. The details of that sentencing date haven’t been released, but the potential consequences are grim.
Federal prosecutors are aiming for the maximum penalty allowed under the law: a 20-year prison sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito is handling the prosecution, building a case on the substantial evidence recovered during the raid and Jarvis’s own admission of guilt. This isn’t a plea bargain for a slap on the wrist; it’s an acknowledgment of the severity of the crime.
The DEA’s Bridgeport HIDTA Task Force isn’t a one-agency operation. It’s a collaborative effort, drawing manpower and resources from the Bridgeport, Stamford, Stratford, Norwalk, and Milford Police Departments, as well as the Connecticut State Police. The Monroe Police Department also provided crucial assistance during the investigation, highlighting the widespread impact of Jarvis’s alleged drug dealing.
