Montana Tribes, State Agencies, Victim Services, Montana 2021

BILLINGS, Montana – A wave of violent crime has hit the streets of Montana, leaving a trail of victims in its wake. But now, five Montana Indian tribes and two state agencies are getting a helping hand from the federal government in the form of $6,631,190 in grants to support services to victims.

The funding, provided by the Office of Victims of Crime (OVC), will go towards providing culturally-appropriate victim services in Indian Country communities, which experience far too much domestic and violent crime. The funds will also enhance State Victim Compensation payments to eligible crime victims.

“These funds are focused on providing culturally-appropriate victim services in Indian Country communities, which experience far too much domestic and violent crime. The funds also will enhance State Victim Compensation payments to eligible crime victims,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson. “As we recognize November as National Native American Heritage Month, we need to support and highlight the work being done to help victims of violence, sexual assault and child abuse.”
